What We Do

The Kiwanis Club of Mercury 64 is a group of community-minded citizens dedicated to making their communities a better place with an emphasis on working with youth while having fun.

Making a Difference in our Communities

Kiwanis helps our communities in countless ways to fulfill the needs of our society. By working together, our members achieve what one person cannot accomplish alone. Our main focus is working with youths to maximize their potential. When you give a child the chance to learn, experience, dream, grow, succeed and thrive, great things happen.

Our Worldwide Presence – Kiwanis International

Kiwanis International was founded in 1915 in Detroit, Michigan. Now in over 80 nations and with a network of service leadership programs, there are over 600,000 people working under the Kiwanis name. Our service leadership programs span from elementary school children through college students as well as adults with disabilities.

Local Network of Like-Minded Volunteers – Capital District

Kiwanis International is divided into districts which cover a large geographical area. The Kiwanis Club of Mercury 64 is a part of the Capital District which includes 185 Kiwanis clubs in Virginia, Maryland, Delaware and the District of Columbia. On a more local basis, our club with 8 other clubs in Newport News and Suffolk form Division 13 of the Capital District. All members from Division 13 frequently work together on local projects such as a fishing clinic and annual Seafood Fest to raise funds for all 9 clubs.

Pancake Breakfast at Applebee’s

A big thanks to Applebee’s who hosted our pancake breakfast fund raiser. Applebee’s provided the restaurant, food and beverages, and the cooks. The Kecoughtan Key Club provided the servers. We provided the greeters and we bussed tables. We had a great time and raised funds. Pictured in the front row are the Key Club servers ready to serve breakfast.

Pictured below is Secretary Al Baker with some of his family enjoying a pancake breakfast.

We support the annual Christmas program at the Hampton Library. Shown below, serving punch and cookies are, from left to right: Monte Correll, Audrey Correll, Joan Davis, Daryl Kilstrom, Bernie Friedland.
